Who we are
Project Shelterlight is a growing collective committed to improving conditions for shelter dogs and strengthening the systems that care for them. Rooted in firsthand experience and community concern, this initiative brings clarity, compassion, and accountability to the public sheltering conversation. We believe meaningful change begins with intention—through steady, informed advocacy that brings together diverse voices in service of a shared goal. Our role is not to be louder, but to speak more clearly, and to represent what still matters most.
Our mission is to advocate for better canine shelter care and operational accountability in government-run and contracted open-intake shelters. We work to strengthen ordinances, improve policies, and support community leaders in creating meaningful change. We aim to establish a clear, measurable, and community-accepted standard of humane care—one rooted in transparency and supported by practical policy.
Through truth-telling, public engagement, and collaboration with decision-makers, we seek to build a sheltering system that reflects both compassion and responsibility. We are the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves—and we believe #ShelterDogsDeserveBetter.
